Oil on Canvas Panel
Hi everyone sorry for the long delay in posting, I've been so buys teaching and developing the online alla prima course.  I'm glad that its finally done, students are able to finally view the videos and learn as well.  It feels so good to paint these alla prima paintings again, I decided to get back into it with painting there peppers.  They are so tiny and have so much character too them, which I love.
Just a reminder the course is open to anyone who wants to learn my alla prima technique.  Thank you again to everyone who's signed up, much appreciated!
I started with my usual approach of no mediums and just a bit of raw umber on the brush.  After the drawing was done I started on the background using cerulean blue, naples yellow and titanium white.
Then I decided to add the base after the background which is not a usual routine for these alla prima paintings.  I used ivory black, cad. orange.  For the lighter area of the base i used burnt sienna, cerulean blue, and titanium white.  I liked this approach it framed the pepprs to be painted last, which was nice.
Then I started on the first pepper with the darks using ivory black, cad. red deep, and cad. red.  Then I state the middle values using cad. red light, and cad. red.  At this point I am creeping towards the lights not adding to much of excess paint, trying to keep control through out the process.
Then I added the lighter values using titanium white and I also go back and see if I have to alter anything in the middle and darker values.
I approached the middle pepper the same way from darker to lighter values.  I'm also using the same palette.
The same goes with the third pepper.
I then added the stems all together using viridian, yellow ochre, cad. yellow, ivory black, and titanium white.  I started with the darkest values first then build up to my lighter values.  Always taking in consideration the form and shifts of values.  These peppers were fun to paint, a bit different do to the composition but nice overall.  Thanks for stopping by and viewing, hope you enjoyed!

Made me laugh Jonathan - Love it!
Fun and exciting composition, which at times is difficult in small formats.
