"Nectarines"

Sold
"Nectarines"
8 x 10 in
Oil on Canvas Panel
I started with a dry brush approach no mediums, just a little of burnt umber on the brush.
After the drawing was established I went into the nectarines first stating the mid darks.   I used permanent rose, cadmium red, and burnt umber.  I am dabbing the colors in their respective areas not worrying about taking it to perfection.
Then I start introducing the mid light tones which are cadmium orange, and cadmium yellow light.  You can see that I am slowly sneaking up to the highlights.
Then I added the lighter tones, not going too light because I am adding these layers pretty thin if I was to add the highlights it will be really thick in application.  In this layer I am applying cadmium yellow light, titanium white and a bit of cadmium orange.  I have also filled in the base with burnt umber, cadmium orange, and ivory black.
Then I added the background which is cerulean blue, naples yellow, and titanium white.
I went back into the nectarines and worked on the dark mid tones, keeping the application pretty thin and dabbing it where it needs to be.
I then went into the base and added the smaller forms or details.  With the details of the base I used cadmium orange, and naples yellow.
I also went into the background and added the second layer which consisted of cerulean blue, naples yellow, and titanium white.  You cannot see the true colors of the background in this picture, the final picture has the closest color.
This is the final painting, you can see the true color of the background.  I went back into the nectarines and stated the darkest darks.  I also went into the highlight areas and went really thick with the application, I used titanium white, cadmium yellow light, and naples yellow.  I also payed attention to edges all around, making sure I kept some areas soft and others hard.  It's an important aspect to painting that a lot of people over look, if you are aware of it and learn how to control it then your ahead of the game.  I hope you enjoyed this one!
